Week 45 Devotion – “What God Wills”
Read Philippians 2:12- 13
For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose” Philippians 2:13
Perhaps “the will of God” sounds like a mystical idea to you. Maybe the deeper you go in your walk, the more you grapple with the question and the vastness of what it entails. And yet, what may come as a surprise to some is that the will of God does not have to be so mysterious. To find it, all you need to do is read His Word.
In chapter 2 of the book of Philippians, Paul speaks to the church in Philippi, and encourages them with instructions for godly living. This established church benefits greatly from receiving this message from Paul as they endure persecution. Among his admonitions, Paul reminds them that they ought to “work out their salvation…”(v.12) Even in his absence, the Philippians are urged to remain consistent in their walks -for it is this consistency that will result in God’s will being achieved.
The will of God is in the Word of God. When we spend time in the Word, we spend time with God. As we spend more time with Him, we study thoroughly what He wants from us, and we sensitize ourselves to His voice. God’s Word is filled with His love for His children and what He desires for them. Now that we have accepted it, we must live by it. We must know that even though we are saved, salvation is an ongoing work. We are saved, we are being saved, and we will be saved- if we commit to walking in the will of God.
Moreover, the will of God is accomplished through the work of God. That is to say, we must make the decision to partner with God, acknowledging that we cannot bring about His desired outcome for our lives without Him. We are guided by His Spirit to make the right decisions, and to choose the right path. Because enduring and encountering persecution can make you question whether you are in the wrong, having God’s Spirit ultimately provides the direction we need to remain in His will.
Reflection
Do you know what God’s will is? Have you been walking in His will for your life?
Prayer
Father God, thank You for Your Word. I pray that through Your Word I will be in constant communion with You. I submit my life to You so that I may not miss the mark. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
