January 19th – “She Heard About Jesus

“For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Mark 5:28

We don’t know her name, but the woman with the issue of blood is mentioned in three of four Gospels and appeared to be defined by her ailment. We know she spent all her money on botched attempts at recovery (Mark 5:26). We know the passage of time did NOT “heal all wounds” and that she had grown worse and no better (v26). We also know that when she heard about Jesus, she didn’t let anything get between her and her healing (v27).

She had a terrible issue. She was literally the walking wounded. It is honestly truly remarkable that she spent all those years hurt but still mustered up a mustard seed of faith to bring her issue to Jesus. She didn’t miss her moment of healing. She didn’t miss her window of opportunity just because she’d been disappointed before. She didn’t allow the pain of her issue to so defeat her that 12 years later, she’d no longer be willing to cut a path through the crowd. Yes, she wanted to be well. And no, it was not enough for her to be around the person of Jesus without experiencing His power. Many waited on Jesus in that day. Many are waiting on Jesus today. What does our faith look like as we wait? Do we believe we will be made well, that our situations must change as we reach out and experience the presence of the Lord?

Now we know that faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God (Romans 10:17). One can imagine the woman with the issue of blood heard many “no’s” before from physicians. But, what do we think she heard about this Jesus that caused her to come out of hiding, to go above the law that mandated her exclusion from society (Leviticus 15:19-31) to draw near in full assurance of faith that she would be healed? What have we heard about this Jesus after weeks of consecration that has sincerely changed our lives, incited us to greater wholeness and delivered us from any issue we might be carrying?

Have we yet heard that He heals all manner of sicknesses and diseases? (Matthew 4:23)

Have we yet heard that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the Gospel preached to them? (Luke 7:22)

Have we yet heard that all authority has been given unto Jesus in Heaven and on Earth? (Matthew 28:18)

2020 undoubtedly introduced a whole host of hurts and issues into the lives of many. These opened wounds un-tended, could have easily bled into this new year because the passage of time alone doesn’t guarantee the healing of all wounds. It goes without saying that a year is a long time to carry pain. How much more so 12 years? And yet, the woman with the issue of blood knew where to direct her pain. What she heard about Jesus was all she needed to believe that God would perfect that which concerned her. Our good news is that the great Physician of then is still working miracles today and His will is still for healing. Reach out and touch the Father. Sons and daughters of the Most High God, everyday you have breath is your moment, your window of opportunity to experience healing for every manner of sickness, disease and issue you carry. Be it a lack of health in your physical body, your mind or your soul, be healed by faith, by the presence of God and by the power of God.

Reflect:

  • Honestly, are you okay?
  • Is there any pain in your life that you need to direct to Your Father in Heaven today? Jehovah Rapha (God our Healer) cares so much for you.
  • What Word can you grab hold of today to bolster your faith that God will heal you?

Prayer:  Father, I believe power is still going out from You today to heal and make whole. Here is my issue. Here is my ailment. Here is my pain. Today I am directing everything I am carrying, everything I’ve carried, to You. I’m reaching out in faith because I have heard the Word and am assured that You have the authority, the power and the will to heal me. Heal me that I may be healed, save me that I may be saved, for You are my praise. Deploy me into the rest of this year to function in wholeness and purpose and to never be defined nor excluded by my pain. I love and trust You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
