Week 44 Devotion – “Worshipping your Way Through”
Read Daniel 3
But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:18
It’s easy to worship while the sun is shining. When things are going your way and you’re feeling good, it might be easier to express your adoration and worship to God. But, when things take a turn for the worst and you are stuck in between a rock and a hard place- how do you navigate your way through?
In Daniel chapter 3, we learn of three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego, who were carried off as exiles into the Babylonian empire. These young men were subject to a period of inculcation and training before they were officially conscripted into the king’s service. Throughout the tenure of King Nebuchadnezzar, we see how the king systematically attempted to strip them of their identity and customs, to essentially redirect their worship. Confronted with this challenge, they remained resolute, and did not back down.
People, systems, and situations will try to attack you in an effort to solicit your worship. Why? Because worship is powerful. Worship is where people draw their strength. Worship determines your priorities and shapes how you spend your time and energy. If these external factors can get you to shift your posture of worship, they can weaken and subdue you for other purposes. However, when you maintain your worship, you have the weapon that positions you for victory. Just like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego worshipped the Most High God, your worship will allow others to witness the deliverance that only comes from God.
Interestingly, these three young men who were promoted at the end of the previous chapter, were not exempt from the order demanding their worship. Yet, they allowed their worship to change their perspective. They allowed their worship to dictate their speech and firmly reiterated that they would, “Not bow down to the gold images.” And, they allowed worship to transform their reality. They knew what their situation was. They didn’t try to deny it or run from it. But, they had such faith in who their God was, that they could see beyond their current circumstances. They worshipped while they were bound, they worshipped their way to breakthrough, and they worshipped and were freed.
Reflection: Where in your life do you need to employ worship as your weapon?
Prayer
Father God, thank You for the ability to worship You. There are many things I’m facing now but God through it all, I will maintain my worship. I will worship You through this, and trust that You will grant me the healing, breakthrough and deliverance I need. In Jesus name, Amen.
