In Spirit and In Truth – Access Granted

Read Ephesians 2:1-18

“For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit” Ephesians 2:18

Growing up, I used to love to watch this television station dedicated to black recording artists. There was one show in particular which took viewers behind the scenes into the making of a music video. Because we were getting an exclusive look at everything that went into production, it was eye opening to see how things really came to life. Fittingly, this show was called “Access Granted”.

In chapter 2 of the book of Ephesians, Paul explains to the believers in Ephesus about a different type of access they have received. Once alienated from God due to their sinful nature, through the blood of Jesus, they have been given a way to reconnect with the Father. Fundamentally, the blood of Jesus represents the behind the scenes work undertaken to restore them into right relationship with God.

Like the Ephesians, we as believers have had our access granted. To say that access has been “granted” is to say that a veil or barrier which previously existed, has been removed. Our sin then, was a barrier, separating us from fellowship with God.  But when we became believers, we believed that the blood of Jesus purifies us from that sin- past, present and future.Through Jesus, the way was made for us to get to the Father.  His blood is the key that allows us to enter the Father’s presence, and takes us beyond the limitations we once faced. Now, as we fellowship freely, we can truly worship in Spirit and in truth.

What should have impeded you and I from receiving the Spirit of God was done away withthrough the blood of Jesus. Because of the blood, we have been enabled to receive the Holy Spirit  allowing us to draw near to the Father. As we continue in relationship with God, the Holy Spirit sustains us in our walks-  as the Comforter, Advocate, Counselor,  Teacher,  Intercessor and more.  And through the Holy Spirit, we have the channel by which we can worship in Spirit and in truth. In essence, we can have total fellowship with the Trinity because our access has been granted.

Reflection

What do you think might try to hinder your true worship? Whatever it is, know that your access has been granted.

Prayer

Father God, thank You for giving me access to You. It’s a privilege to be in relationship with You and I will not take it for granted. I am grateful that nothing external can hinder my true worship, and so God I commit to worshipping in Spirit and in truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
