Sermon Title: “Wiserhood”(Click Here to Watch)

Pastor Dennis Martin

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 4:1-9

This title reminds us about men, a fraternity of men, that didn’t compromise on their beliefs. As children of God, we must not compromise our state of wisdom and in functioning in proper Christian sanity. We need to applaud our brothers and sisters when we see them maintain a standard of wisdom. 1 Corinthians 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world. Nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought. It is a revelation from the Holy Spirit which reveals scriptural insight to my specific situation. Sometimes you can’t wait for someone to give you a Word, you need to rely on the Holy Spirit to give you a Word. Be wise. Wisdom is not your experience. It is a wisdom not of this world, it is something inexperienced yet. When something comes your way, don’t allow your experience alone to be your guide. There has to be a reliance on the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Jesus knows about betrayal. He was 100% man and also 100% God. What made Jesus an adequate high priest is that He bore all of our infirmities. Some of us restrict our thinking and planning to what we’ve experienced.

It’s not based on our own experience – this wisdom. Wisdom is progressive. What made sense to you at 10, tell me if it makes sense to you now. The modern version of you will always be the best version of you. Understand that you need to be wise. God wants us to be wise with our money, our marriage, our emotional selves as well. Wisdom is an understanding beyond people. 1 Corinthians 2:6 tells us it is greater than the princes of this world. This wisdom is not for the people that aspire to be normal. God wants to give you a wisdom, a behaviour, an understanding not of this world. So often we struggle to try and fit in when God calls us to be outstanding. There is a wisdom God is offering us, not based on our experience and not for the average person. We can’t look at anyone else. This is a wisdom not of this world. God wants to give us an upgrade, He wants our cup to be filled. As mature Christians, we don’t ask God to fill our cup or what our cup looks like; our life is a reflection of what is going on.

This wisdom is only for the mature. Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect? This is a wisdom that if you are childish about your Christianity, life and things that you hold dear, it’ll miss you. When you speak about maturity, love isn’t far too. God wants to give us wisdom. Consider the hour glass. You can’t control the sand at the top or the sand at the bottom – which is all past. All that window room in the middle is all the time you have to work with. This is why you have to learn to plan ahead in life. Some of us pray as Christians, “Lord turn back the hourglass in life.” But the time allotted to make a decision remains the same. You can’t be concerned about how you look around these people. Some people believe they always have to clapback, beyond the average person. God wants us to be people who are wise. Be committed to the wiserhood. There has to be a commitment from every individual here, that you will be mature, and that you will be responsible with your faith.

The dispensation of wisdom starts off at home. Children’s church starts at home. Heaven help us if the school is the only place your children will learn something. When the Bible is telling us, “My children, hear the instruction, hear I give you good doctrine”. Good doctrine is advice that stands the test of time. When Pastor Dennis calls his boys, he shares what worked for grandma. Even David said he will not try on an armour that hasn’t been tried. If God is calling us to be wise, we have to be a people that are able to pass it onto the next generation. We need to be committed to being wise. He will give us strategic advice in our prayer life. He will give us advice and wisdom at a different level. We can’t second guess it because we haven’t experienced it. This is where faith is not enough. Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of the Lord. Trust is a different thing. This is one of those things where you have to trust God’s. Word. To the people that ask God to show them a new thing and lack the forbearance – know that you aren’t ready for new. God isn’t moving slowly, It is us. The delay is us. God is saying He wants to get us to a place. Give your children a faithful thing; something that they can rely on.

Proverbs 29:15: A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. Pastor Dennis always makes teachable moments for his children. Make sure you are setting things in place for children. Untaught children will be a shame to your family. Who do you believe your children to be? If you believe they will be kings and princesses, people of prominence, you will raise them as such. Be committed to this living. Don’t turn away from the words of my mouth. It is possible to start off at wisdom and stray from that path. Your responsibility is to keep the wisdom God has granted to you. Some of us even forgot the prophetic word over our lives. Keep this wisdom. These men in the commercials for the wiserhood, were committed to the lifestyle of manhood. We should be sure to not have anything taint our wisdom. That’s supposed to be your pride.

Verses 6-9  of our passage today details wisdom being a woman. Don’t forsake her, she will preserve you. Wisdom is the woman that if you love her, she’ll love you back. If you take pride in your wisdom, she will protect you. A lot of mistakes we make are from foolishness, not because we don’t know better. The Word of God has never failed anyone. We at times misappropriate the Word of God.God has a grace and a forbearance to look beyond that and continue to embrace us. Wisdom is found as a woman. We need to cherish and protect it. There needs to be a commitment amongst believers. Don’t play the fool anymore.

Be wiser in two areas. 1. Be wiser over your mouth. Luke 2, the shepherds came to Mary telling her all the things that the angels told her. In Luke 1, Mary was already visited. Mary kept everything in her heart. When you speak prematurely, you sabotage yourself. Jesus hung on the cross, And, He got stoned when He was a grown man. What if Mary exposed stuff right then when He was young? When you speak prematurely, you allow the enemy to get to your destination before you get there. There is a process required. God wants us to have mastery over our mouths. Know who to share things with. Don’t say anything until it happens. Have the forbearance for the work. Until you get there, don’t get slowed down. My mistakes will be my children’s wisdom. But there is a wisdom that is beyond my experience. Not everything you go through in life should be given for public consumption.

Mastery over your mouth. Know who to share things with. Know your destiny helpers. Some people you share somethings with, Heaven help you, you’ll get in an argument with them and they will disgrace you. Know who to share things with. Let’s talk about Samson. His strength lay within him being able to keep his mouth. His strength lay in where he kept his secret. There are people that will give you strength, abuse and use your strength, and there are people out there who want to take your strength. Samson experienced all three. Who are the people that give you strength in your life? Don’t put people in the wrong places. Not everything is emotional, there has to be knowledge. When I am praying and I am bringing up everyone as destiny helpers, I need to know who to call. It’s not a lot of people. God and one person make the majority. Samson was too much about his strength. All the devil needs to do is get the wrong person in your crowd. Their intent is to take away your strength. Be wise with your talents and time. Socially, there has to be an assessment of the people around you. We have to watch what we say and properly assess the people around us.

Know who your friends are. In this area of wisdom, know who your friends are. Have a clear assessment of the people that are around you. Who are the ones that are giving you strength. Do you know the names of the people you should bring up in prayer regarding your strength? You need to know who is for you and who is against you. There has to be a level of wisdom in this. At the end of the day, we will look like fools and that is not the will of God for our lives.

Wisdom is not based on my experience. Scripture is our defense. If anyone asks why I do a thing, I show them God’s scripture. I please God and not the world. Please one God, not a world full of people. My wisdom hinges on my discipline. You have to know a thing and act upon a thing. Know a thing and act upon the same thing. Not based on my experience, not based on this world, and it is not even on the level of the average person.

You have to obtain mastery over your mouth. A person who cannot govern their spirit is like a city without walls. Watch what you say, know the things you say, see if the things you say are helpful. Assess the people around you, know your destiny helpers. Not everyone is your friend but God called you to love all. When the Bible says to get wisdom, this is referring to making a purchase. The Bible is telling us that this will cost us something. This will make a lot of amendments with regards to who we are. It will cost us something but it will keep us.
