Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 37:1-10,14

Pastor Richard Brown

It is Pentecost Sunday!

The onset of the 21st century has revealed a crisis of relevance. Church attendance is on decline and the current pandemic has been a revealer. People are questioning their commitment. The popularity, the relevancy and some would say the power of the church has diminished. As we make our way through crises of faith, pandemics, and dilemmas it is more apparent and critical that the hand of the Lord be upon us. Ezekiel says the hand of the Lord was upon me. That means the hand of the Lord taught him and guided him. It is a wonderful thing to have the Lord’s hand on your life. And it also states it carried him out into the Spirit.

Carried in the Spirit. If we are ever going to see a manifestation of the power and promises of God we need to be carried out from the flesh realm into the spiritual realm. God does His work through the Holy Spirit and the only way to participate with God is to get in the Spirit. He tells Zechariah that “it is not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6). The operation of the Holy Spirit is not an emotional response. It isn’t a jig, rattle or roll. Being in the Spirit, is speaking of the realm or the dimension or the environment of God. To be in the Spirit, is to be in the realm, the God-space, to be in the dimension of God.

John the Revelator in the book of Revelation said he was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day – he was in the God-dimension. We see vision, receive instruction in the God-dimension. That’s where we get a glimpse into the prophetic. To see what John saw we got to be where John was in the Spirit. Carried in the Spirit. The bible says Ezekiel was in the Spirit and that’s where we belong. That’s our environment. We need to live in the realm of the glory of God. Galatians tells us that as we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Not talking about being spooky or strange. If we will experience the operation of the Holy Ghost then we have to live and walk in the Holy Spirit. The environment of the glory of God has to become more precious. Have to find ourselves in the environment of God. Our prayer to the Holy Spirit is “carry me in the Spirit.” The environment of the Spirit gives us access to the Kingdom realm. All supernatural activity takes place in the environment of the Kingdom of God. Jesus revealed to us that overcoming the power of the devil or having power to destroy the works of the devil was a direct result of the presence of the Kingdom of God. In Matthew 12, Jesus speaks to the Pharisees and says “if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come on to you.” The Kingdom is the principle, the Spirit of God is the power.

The Kingdom is principle, the Spirit is power. We may have the principle. We may have the talk about the Kingdom, we may sing about the Kingdom, but principle is not enough. Principle won’t heal the sick, nor deliver the bound and the oppressed. Principle is important. It is the foundation on which we stand. Principle establishes us and stabilises us in the right place. But knowledge of truth doesn’t set us free, the truth we activate sets us free. We can know all the truth about healing but live every day of our life in sickness. It is not what we know but what we activate. The realm of God is both principle and power. Paul tells the Corinthians that the Kingdom of God is not in Word but in power. Jude verse 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude knew prophetically that there would come a time when the body of Christ would slip into a state of complacency. Slip into a faith without substance, words, ideas and philosophies. A dead faith that agrees with the bible, but never presses its way into a real experience of His power and glory. You have to activate what you know and you can only do this in the God-realm. You can only see manifestations of what is written in the God-realm. Ezekiel said I was carried in the Spirit. And that is Pastor Brown’s prayer that He carries every believer in the Spirit. Everything that the bible says is ours by right of inheritance. We are seated together in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. Even though we hold the title deed for a property we will never benefit from it. We have to have more than just what is principled and what is taught. The Kingdom of God is both principle and power. Having the power and the principle is the inheritance of every believer but it comes only through the Holy Spirit. That’s why Paul exhorts the Ephesian church, and do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). To be filled with the Spirit is to have the gifts of the Spirit, signs, miracles, wonders, supernatural visitations, manifestations, demonstrations of the power of God, the activity of God in us and through us. It is more than running around the church or rolling at the altar. It is activating the mind of God in the realm of God. The majority of the church world is satisfied by the principle.

We are watching Pastor Brown right now but many will go on to watch 5 other sermons. We are high off of teaching, we are happy to know the bible is true. But we never activate the truth. We need to get out of the carnal mindset and get into the Spirit. Jude warned us not to accept a powerless message. Jude said we must earnestly contend for the original faith the early church had. We need the faith of Paul and Silas and Peter. We need to see the miraculous, signs and wonders, healing and deliverance. When we classify Pentecost, we must understand that it is more than speaking in tongues. It is more than a shake. It is more than a twitch. It is more than a dance. It is about being carried in the Spirit to the God-environment. It means to get out of your flesh, get out of your carnal mind and to be carried. Anything short of the manifestation of the love, the power, the purposes of God is a profession not a possession. I don’t just want to talk about it. We don’t want to just look like Christians. We need to activate the power of God. Jesus said when He cast out devils it was Word and power. The Kingdom is not Word only but the Kingdom must produce power. What do we have today?

Do we have more than words? Are we being carried daily by the Spirit? Wherever the Kingdom of God is present, there is a manifestation of power. There will be a demonstration of the power of God. Romans 14, Paul tells the Roman church that “the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (v17).  So wherever the Kingdom of God is present, there will be righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. So Ezekiel said he was carried by the Spirit into the Kingdom realm. The Spirit set him down in the midst of a valley full of bones. He said that the hand of the Lord was upon him and carried him by the Spirit and set him down into the midst of a valley full of bones. The Spirit of God took him to a place where there were bones. Bones signify those who were dead a long time. The Spirit put him in the Spirit amid something that was dead a long time. Here we are seeing the power and the purpose of being carried by the Spirit. Not for an emotional outburst. The Spirit will set, establish and plant you in chaotic environments in order for you to manifest the Kingdom. He will place you in environments where it is for you to manifest the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God in you is greater than all of the sickness, all of the bondage. We are walking around dead things. Instead of becoming like them, we should be influencing them and manifesting the glory of God. Ezekiel said he was in the midst of a valley of bones. So he prophesied as he was commanded. There was a noise. Then suddenly the right bone connected to another. Bone to bone. Indeed as he looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them. There was noise, shaking and movement. Flesh covered them. But, there was no ruach. There was no breath. There was no Spirit. They had word, they had principle, but what they were waiting for was the power. Ezekiel prophesied, that means he spoke, principle, word. Good things happen when we teach, there was some noise and sinews and they looked like human beings. They looked alive but there was no breath. There was no breath. Principle, truth and knowledge are all good stuff, it will educate you, it will shape you up and put you together. It will make you look good. You can be pretty but be dead. All put together but dead. Smelling good but dead. Having a suit or a tie but dead. Paying your tithes but dead. Biblical but dead. Knowledgeable but dead. The enemy you fight is not afraid of what you look like. He is not afraid of what you talk about in principle. What makes him shake and tremble is when you back that word with the power of the Holy Ghost.

Cry out God “carry me in the Spirit”. We can have the biggest church and still be dead. We can have the best praise and worship and still be dead. If all we have is principle, then we are dead. If we teach and talk about the Holy Ghost but no one is delivered then we are dead. In Luke 5 it declares that Jesus came on a certain day and there were Pharisees, and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Jesus was teaching, giving principle, but the word of God says that the power of the Lord was present. Pastor Brown is a preacher, he is not against it, but preaching that is effective, preaching that changes lives, must be backed up by the Spirit of God, the power of God. That is what Pentecost is about. In the valley of dry bones there was principle. Principle shook up stuff. Preaching shakes up stuff in our lives. Principle can do good stuff but can leave one lifeless. From Ezekiel it is clear that if these bones don’t experience the power of God then you’ve only given them half the message. Across the world we are only giving you half the message. But unless you experience the power of the Holy Ghost you’re not done

Ezekiel 37:9. They looked alive but there was no breath. And then he said unto me, prophesy, speak. To be prophetic means to declare, speak to the wind, speak to the ruach. Speak to the breath. Call on the wind. Prophesy son of man. Come Holy Spirit. Come wind of God. Breath upon those slain that they live. We are in a place where we need to lift our hands. Come Holy Spirit. God tells Ezekiel, speak to the wind, prophesy, you’re given the principle, you spoke to the bones, speak to the Spirit. That’s what we need. Carry us out of our sin, carnality, bring us into the environment of God. So we prophesied as we were commanded and the breath came. The breath came into them and they lived and they stood up on their feet as an exceedingly great army. When the Holy Ghost comes, we get ready to tear down every plan. When the Holy Ghost really comes, we’re talking about the Spirit of God.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. You can’t talk about Jesus accurately without the power of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:3-4. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Separate tongues of fire and they were all filled. Not some of them. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance. Principle and knowledge can sit on a shelf and gather dust, but power is action, power changes, power makes us dangerous for the kingdom of hell. There had to be more to Ezekiel’s message than words. Preacher, worship leader, minister, believer, there has to be more to your message than just words. There had to be breath. There had to be ruach. There had to be Spirit. There had to be power. We’ve been experiencing the principle for so long. Time for the power.

Pastor Brown prophesies to us today that the wind of the Spirit is about to flow in our lives. It is about to fill and flood our lives. Carry us in the Spirit this Pentecost Sunday. We can’t witness without the power of the Holy Ghost.
